I got my first Roadmate 1470 and the POI search was terrible taking well over 5 minutes in most cases to locate business’. I also didn’t like the style keyboard since it wasn’t QWERTY. But, I found out 2.2 firmware update on MAgellan website will fix all that so I downloaded it and it bricked the unit.

Amazon did a next day shipment on the return and sent me another one. Amazon return process was very nice.
This second unit I received I was hesitant to update it so I waited a few weeks. I then decided to call
Magellan as I got impatient with the POI search and told them on the phone my experience and that I was nervous
about updating this unit and asked for some resolution to this since the POI search didn’t work well with 1.1 firmware. Magellan said the firmware update that was download a few weeks ago should be deleted from your drive and redownload and try to upgrade it. He said there have been reports of corruption on download of that file.

So, I redownloaded and viola the second unit updated succesfully and no bricked unit that would get stuck on boot up with a spinning clock.

The problem I had are solved the POI search is awesome and everything works fine and I have my QWERTY keyboard.
I gave this bad marks on reliability because of all the hassle but keep trying you’ll get a unit that will upgrade now. I paid 87 dollars for a refurb unit and let me tell you even thought this was a hassle to get a unit that would work right was well worth this money. A new one is significantly more and now I have a unit that will update.
